Listed Ropery Conversion

A Housing Design Award winner, this Grade II Listed Building began as a 19th-century rope-making workshop in Hexham’s historic town centre. Having stood derelict for several years, the space posed numerous challenges, with the southern elevation nearing collapse.

Taking the basic components of the 4,300 sqft ropery, we carefully returned this space to its original form, preserving as much of the building’s unique typology as possible. Overcoming several obstacles, we intelligently integrated a versatile structure and modern floating roof to create five residential units and one retail unit, breathing new life into this historic landmark.
